Seismic Happenings

Post by Noel George on Fri Dec 12, 2008 4:49 pm

Sunday we will be peering carefully into the heavenlies as we study Luke's account of Gabriel, the Angel who stands in the presence of God. Seismic things have happened, as recorded in the Holy Scriptures. Things that we still do not fully understand even after 2,000 years of analyzing and researching.

As we think about seismic events: Hurricanes, Tsunamis, Tornadoes, Floods, 9/11, Assassinations of Presidents, Famine, war, etc., which "seismic" event has changed the Christian culture the most?

How about the publication of 'The Origin of Species'?

I was wondering about some things that are even more subtle than "The Origin of Species," like false teaching within the churches and seminaries (which are teaching our pastors their theology). How dangerous to "tinker" with the Scriptures. Even in main line evangelical seminaries the theology that is being taught can be very liberal with topics being generated that question the divinity of Jesus, His resurrection, the idea that Satan does not exist, there is no hell, universalism- which teaches that everybody will go to heaven, etc. Has the church been invaded by the Trojan Horse as told in the Latin Aeneid?

Seismic activities are not very subtle Smile ... think Earthquake...

I think what you are talking about is similar to the 'Butterfly Effect' ... a seemingly small event that has great repercussions, or a small deviation that causes a significant change in the course of the overall system.
