For Whom Would Jesus Vote?

Post by Noel George on Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:21 pm

I have received screaming emails that are spewing toxins and hatred concerning the character of each of the two presidential candidates. Many well-meaning Christians are drawing up sides and doing their fair share of "mud slinging."

So the question rises in my simple mind: "For whom would Jesus vote in this presidential election of 2008?"

If all Christians are praying for God's will to be accomplished and asking that the Lord would help us to "pick His man," then how does God answer? Wouldn't it be scary if God were doing some kind of cosmic prayer count "for and against" on each candidate, and the person that was elected had the higher prayer tally?

As we are approaching revival services in our church, how does the election figure into our praying and living?

I am not sure that Jesus would even vote. Neither candidate stands on much moral ground as far as I am concerned. I will pray for whomever is elected, but neither candidate will get my vote.

With that said, please try to keep this topic/forum civil. I know people get all worked up and emotional about these things, which is completely unnecessary. If hate mongering starts, I will have to start wielding my moderation powers. Smile

I will have to agree with Weston. There doesn't really seem to be much difference in general. There's inexperience on both sides, I don't see evidence of leadership from either team. I do believe God will hear our requests to be the guiding influence. I also believe that isn't necessarily an endorsement. When I pray, I pray for all our leadership personell, be it local or national. I believe that is what we have been told to do in the scripture.

2 parties = 0 choice

For whom would Jesus vote?
Let us remember that voting is a man-made system that came with his resistance to theocracy.
There is a proverb (not Bible) that says the mob is always wrong. If that is so, then why do we continue to insist on rule by the majority?

Sorry, but my political stance is not in this world.

The Bible says that we are "to be in the world, but not of it." If we vote are we "of the world"? Are we to be politically passive? What is our responsibility as Christians in this world? When does one "being in the world" cross over to one being "of the world"?

Maybe not 'politically passive' but I get frustrated at continually choosing between the 'lesser of two evils'. Who would Jesus vote for if Hitler was running against Nero? [ok, so maybe that is a bad example Smile] ... but you get my point right? I can't bring myself to support either person. So I cannot bring myself to venture a guess as to which one Jesus would vote for. Jesus would probably write in a much better candidate. Himself. Razz

I side with Weston! Surprise, surprise!!! Voting between two evils -- why should we 'HAVE' to vote for any evil. All that aside...Jesus is Lord and will still be governing ALL things after Nov. 4 in America. His kingdom is stress free, never rushed and never exists in panic mode. Praise God!

A larger question...how many Americans would vote for Jesus as President of the USA? Razz

Well, not many. He would have to run as an independent. He cares too much for the poor, opposes abortion, opposes killing in general, and he is far too honest to ever make it as a politician in the USA. Plus I heard that he was conceived before his parents were even married. And did you hear what he did in that temple in Jerusalem? We can't have that sort of unbridled emotion in the white house. Not to mention the company he kept. A bunch of common thieves.

Yes, I agree that both candidates are not terrific choices. Yes, I agree that our hope is not in the political system. And--I would hate to be either of the presidential candidates elected to this volatile economic and moral-declining environment. But, as my civic duty, I have to vote for the candidate who best aligns with my beliefs. Which candidate believes in pro-life and will nominate supreme court justices who may some day vote to overturn Roe V Wade? Which candidate believes in pro-family ideals? Which candidate will support Isreal in their fight for life? We can't afford to cast a vote for someone who might abandon Isreal, God's chosen land. A non vote for either candidate is a vote for the person who chooses secular humanist views, more socialistic views, and a quicker path to destruction for our country.

If all Christians did not vote in elections, who, I ask, would be in office??? Do we do nothing? Do we quit talking about issues just because there is no one who fits our picture of a perfect candidate? Do we leave it to God to put whomever into office? If that's the case, we just need to sit around and let God put food on our table also. Maybe He'll mow my lawn for me too!

I know right now if the Christians choose NOT to vote, who will get in office. We can sit back and let another person like Hitler come into power some day just as it happened to Germany when the Christians went along with the crowd and did not speak out. We have to speak out, we have to vote and if those who don't respect God and the rights that our founding fathers gave us through the constitution get in office, then at least we will know that we have done our part, as much as lies within us. We have to vote, if there are no other choices than the lesser of two evils.

Please, friends, use the power of your vote. We are only one, but there is strength in all of us binding together. Perhaps it is too late for us to do anything about the state our country is in, but I'm not giving up. Don't you give up, either!

Hitler claimed to be a good Christian man. My main problems are that Obama supports abortion, and McCain supports a pointless war.

I can not log in myself so this is Christy logged in under Jon. I'm not sure what to believe during this election time. I would lean towards agreeing with Charity. I think that we, as American Christian people, have a duty to vote. Who we choose to vote for should be based on who is closeset to our beliefs. We are never going to find someone who believes 100% the way we do. I don't know if Jesus would vote or not. I tend to think that he would. We have basically two choices. I don't really care for either one but as of today I will vote for the one who I think will keep our country safe and will protect my Christian values and beliefs.

Our country is no safer, nor more at risk than it was 10 years ago. We live under an illusion of security, that gives us a warm cozy feeling as we take off our shoes and watch as our luggage is torn apart in airports.

Weston, I agree that our country is not safer than it was 10 years ago. However, I have listened to both presedential nominees speak and I feel that one is more likely to at least keep us as safe as we are now and not endager us any further. Some may disagree with me and that's okay. I have heard so many different things this election time. I'm getting to the point where I don't know what to believe. I do know that we don't get an accurate picture of anything because of the media. I do feel that every American has a choice to vote or not to vote and shouldn't be made to feel bad if they choose not to vote. I have thought a lot about not voting myself, but if we choose not to vote we shouldn't complain with how things turn out! In the end, I've am going to vote because I want to know I voted between the two and chose the one I felt like was closest to my beliefs. - Christy

Just a question, but why do you all feel that this election time is more emotionally charged than others? (or did I just not notice this before?) - Christy

I think most presidential elections are pretty emotionally charged. I am not sure why... people just get all worked up over it. ??

Even if I did vote, and my candidate won, [whomever that may be] I would still complain about him. This way, at least I can say, "well he didn't get my vote". Very Happy
