If my people...

One of my favorite verses is 2 Chronicles 7:14..."if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." When I lived in Ohio there was a group of strong prayer warriors that began showing videos from around the world where revival was taking place, where crops were huge and plentiful, where carrots were 2 feet long, where the crime rate dropped to almost nothing. They stood on this verse.

I have also fallen in love with the song by Casting Crowns that echoes this verse. I have always felt that this was a promise to all of "His people". Recently during a men's study, we were discussing "How to study the Bible". First, determine who is the writer. Second, who is the audience. Third, what is the context.

When you look at all of these things, is the above passage really a promise we can stand on? Since the passage was written specifically to the jews, can we claim this promise as our own? Believe me I love this verse, but are we wrong in saying it is applicable to us?

Don't get me wrong, I think we should turn from our wicked ways. I think we should humble ourselves. I think we should pray and seek HIS face, but does this mean he will heal our land?

I was talking to Dad about your post... he referenced this passage:

Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham.

The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Galatians 3:7-9

So I would say that the promise applies to us as well...
