Resurrection Sunday
We are entering the most holy of weeks for the Christian community: Passion Week. This week of Jesus' life takes up 1/3 of the gospel narratives. Many things took place in the last week of Jesus' life on earth; such as many healings- even on the Sabbath, raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus' anointing at Bethany, clearing the money changers from the Temple, Jesus washing the disciples' feet, the Upper Room discourse, agonizing prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus' prayers for His disciples and those who would believe through their message, Judas' murder plot carried to the Jewish leaders, Jesus' sinister arrest, Peter's three-fold denial of Jesus, the illegal evening Jewish court sessions, Jesus standing before a confused Pilate, Jesus' lead-whipped scourging, the torturous crucifixion, the actual death and burial of Jesus in an unused tomb. All of these historical events leading up to the foundational and cardinal doctrine of the Christian faith- The Resurrection.
The day of worship changed from Sabbath- Saturday to the Lord's Day- Sunday because of this single event! Over a billion Christians will gather in houses of prayer next week to worship this same Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
"I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable" 1 Corinthians 15:50.
What does that mean? "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life" Romans 6:4.
This new life is resurrection life. Have you been buried with Him, so that you, too, may experience His resurrection power on that Day?
