Where is your God?

Where is your God now?

I see this question a lot online, and in songs...

You thought it was the Christian thing to do, breaking up that fight at school
'Til the gun came into play, and the sight was set on you
Running was ironic cause it was the last time you would
Wish the kid you tried to help wouldn't laugh when he saw you
Are the invisible man, no one looks you in the eye
You've become an anecdote, for the wrong place at the wrong time
The worst case scenario, the proverbial "that guy"
You never did question your faith; you flushed it with your first bed pan
That's why I have to ask, where is your god now?

I see this question usually coming out of some sort of mixture of anger, ignorance, pride, and/or confusion. Usually when someone is asking this question, they are not willing to accept the old "bad things happen to good people", or "it rains on the just and the unjust", or even references to Job. So my question is:

What is your response to someone with this mindset? I think this is important to address, because I believe a lot of non/former Christians feel this way. This kind of goes along with the last of the beatitudes, as this question is often used to mock or poke fun at the recipient of the question [at least in my experience].

What do you think?

Where is your god now?

An old farmer was slowly driving his old clunker pick up truck down the highway with his old wife riding with him. Unexpectedly a young, "in love" couple in a red convertible sports car raced around the old man's pick up. The love birds in the sports car were sitting extremely close!

The elderly wife in the pick up truck said, "I remember when we used to sit like that! Why don't we do that anymore?"

The old man sat quietly for a moment and then said very slowly, "I haven't moved."

Where is your god?

Where He always has been! He hasn't moved!

Return to your first love.

Where is your God?

Wow. How providential is it that I would come across this question tonight after being faced with it from a co-worker today? It was an introductory discussion leading up to the business at-hand. Hi, how are you, how’s the wife, how are the kids? Our conversation turned to the children in our home and why would God allow such atrocious things to happen in their lives and in the lives of countless other children in our world.
In essence, He was blaming God for the pain and suffering that he sees. Where is God, the Protector, in these situations?
The first words out of my mouth were, “It’s not God’s fault.” In God’s divine plan, we were created with a free will to choose to love God. Adam and Eve made a wrong choice that ushered in pain and suffering into our world. We shouldn’t blame God for the irresponsible actions of others.
“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world…” Romans 5:12
Although suffering is difficult to comprehend, our merciful God can use it to accomplish good. If suffering can drive someone to curse God, perhaps it can drive them to seek God as well. Perhaps the discussions and scriptures that follow will draw the unbeliever toward salvation.
“And we know that all things work together for good…” Romans 8:28
Yet through it all, we see a compassionate God. He has provided hope for our desperation. These sufferings are nothing compared to what God has prepared for us. A glorious heaven awaits those who follow Jesus.
“…I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2
So, did this just become an evangelistic opportunity? Is one soul closer to answering Jesus’ call on his life because of the question, “Where is your God?” Are the angels getting ready for a party?

How often we miss these "evangelistic opportunities" as you put it, Jon. Great thought.

I have heard it said, "Everything in life has the opportunity to make us more like Christ, if we allow it."

Even unexpected comments from unbelievers that deeply question us with "where is your God?"

How are you responding to this question?
