Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

I have heard it said, "I have been poor and I have been rich... I'd rather be rich!"

So when Jesus says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven," what moves through your mind?

Does Jesus want us to have low self esteems, always looking at the ground with hands in pockets mumbling, "shucks"?

A penny for your thoughts...

Poor in Spirit or poor in spirit! I choose the former -- because we will seek further to fill ourselves with the SPIRIT -- the one who directs and channels our spiritual hunger for more knowledge of God and to live accordingly.

I believe I would choose spirit rather than Spirit. We are to realize our spiritual poverty apart from God. We would never be poor IN Spirit, but very poor APART from Spirit.

When we see our total and abject poverty apart from God, then we are truly blessed; fortunate; happy!
