Jonah: Human

Post by Noel George on Wed Jul 08, 2009 9:16 pm

I would challenge you to read the first 17 verses of the first chapter of the book of Jonah before you respond to this blog.

1. How do you picture Jonah's spiritual, interior life as you read this passage?

2. How do you picture God after you read this passage?

3. How would you respond if God asked you to do something that went against every fiber of your being?

Happy blogging...

.

1. It seems that Jonah had great faith, but for some reason was reluctant to obey God. He knew that the sea would become calm if they threw him overboard.

2. A bit like Joe Lewis. "He can run, but he can't hide."

3. I would probably make excuses... "Did God really say..." etc. ... I would like to think that I would eventually do it though.

everybody knows how the story of jonah was a prophetic picture of Jesus being in the belly ( heart ) of the earth for 3 days at His death...
but what is interesting is that it could have a higher fulfillment -

if we came from the dust of the ground - we are our own " earth " -
and Jesus has sent Himself ( His Spirit ) into the heart of that earth for 3 days now ( 1 day = 1,000 years )...

after all - Jonah means Dove - again a picture of the Spirit...

So, after Jesus has been in my heart for 3000 years, I will be resurrected. I get it now.

wait... what?

Shocked
